We aim to create a better future based on diversified values and experiences of youth from both developed and developing countries. We aim to empower youth, who are to become the leaders of the future, by finding solutions to the problems of developing countries, through discussions with their peers from different backgrounds.

1.2. What IDYF 2016 aspires to achieve

.....Since its establishment in 2012, IDYF has provided opportunities to create solutions to International Development problems, through discussions among youth from every part of the world.
.....In IDYF2016, we aim to find effective and feasible solutions. We strongly hope our participants will apply their experiences obtained in IDYF2016 to overcome problems faced in their respective countries.

1.3. The Theme of the Discussion in IDYF2016

Environmental Protection vs Industrial development

Topic: River pollution caused by Batik industry in Pekalongan, Indonesia.

.....Pekalongan is one of the cities in Central Java Indonesia. Industries of Batik, traditional art drawn in fabric, industry drive the economy in the town of Pekalongan. However, chemicals disposed into canals by this industry cause many problems in society, especially in the field of environment and health.

.....Though this issue itself is a local one, the discussion around this issue is universal; every country is facing the problem of Environmental Protection vs Industrial development. In the discussion, participants are expected to share their experience on this issue. In the process of creating solutions for Pekalongan, you will be able to deeply understand the situation in other countries and your country, and hopefully find ways to tackle YOUR problem.

.....Participants will tackle this issue in group working, and one person from the region will participate in each group.

1.4. Agenda Setting and Member Selection

.....To provide an appropriate program to realize our abovementioned goals, IDYF 2016 will prepare two different kinds of selection process: “Agenda Setting” and “Member Selection”.

1 Agenda Setting: Closed

.....In this summer, we held “Agenda Setting” to decide the development problem we tackle in the discussion of IDYF2016. Agenda Setting was aimed to decide the theme of the discussion of IDYF2016, and we received a lot of applications in this selection process. From those thousands of development issues, we chose ONE problem as the theme of the discussions of IDYF2016; River pollution caused by Batik industry in Pekalongan, Indonesia. The participants of IDYF 2016 will aim to create solutions for this problem.
.....It was decided that the team which submitted this problem to IDYF2016 team would be joining in the discussion in IDYF2016 in Tokyo, and provide real information on this issue to create feasible and effective solutions.

2. Member Selection: Open NOW!

.....In “Member Selection”, we select participants for the program of IDYF 2016.
If you pass this stage of selection:

  • you will become a participant of IDYF 2016 held in Tokyo, March 2016.
  • you will be expected to participate in the discussion in order to create solutions to the problem selected in “Agenda Setting”; River pollution caused by Batik industry in Pekalongan, Indonesia.

1.5. The Program of IDYF2016

.....In IDYF2016, we aim to create effective and feasible solutions to the problem selected in “Agenda Setting”; River pollution caused by Batik industry in Pekalongan, Indonesia.
.....To achieve this, we will hold a 8-day program, which consists of 4 elements – “Issue Analysis”, “Input from the Experts”, “Group Discussion”, “Presentation and Feedback”.

2.3. Application requirements

  • Youth from all over the world from 18 to 28 years old
  • Any nationality is welcomed
  • As we would like to provide opportunities for more people to participate in IDYF, we kindly ask members of IDYF of previous years to refrain from applying

40,000 JPY / person
*Accommodation and meals are included
*Insurance, transportation expenses (including transportation from the airport), accommodation before and after the program, are not included. Additional expenses may apply.
*We will contact your representative later regarding the method of payment

«About the scholarship»
.....We have a scholarship to allow youth with financial difficulties to join IDYF 2016. The scholarship will be given only to those who have passed stringent checks. The scholarship will include:

  1. Flight ticket
  2. Participation costs

3.1. How to submit your application

*Register your personal information and essay.
*The theme of your essays are as follows;

  1. Why do you want to participate in IDYF2016? (100-150 words)
  2. How can you use your experiences to contribute to IDYF2016? (200-250 words)
  3. Propose a solution for water pollution caused by industrial effluent.(200-300words)
  4. Suppose that the local traditional industry is giving a negative impact on the local environment under the status quo, how can youths realize environmental sustainability compatible with new business specializing in local traditional industry? (100-300 words)

3.2. Application deadline

Application deadline is 30th November 2015, 23:59 (GMT/UTC +09:00).

  • No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
  • Application will only be accepted once.
  • After we have received your application, we will send you a confirmation e-mail. If you do not get a confirmation e-mail by 26th November, please contact us at: idyf2016.enquiry@gmail.com

3.3 Announcement of selection results

.....If you are selected as a member of IDYF2016, we will send you an e-mail to confirm your participation in our forum. Plus, we will post the list of the applicants who passed our selection, if you agree to put your name on our website. The result would be announced around 12th December, 2015.
In case you didn’t pass this selection process, we will not send any notification to you.

.....After the announcement, we will not accept the cancellation. Be sure to check your schedule before you apply to IDYF.

4.1. Regarding meals

.....If you face any dietary restrictions (allergies/vegetarian/religious reasons), please inform us beforehand. 

4.2. Visa arrangements

.....Please arrange your visa yourself. As visa arrangements may take some time, please do it beforehand.
.....If you require any documents (e.g. invitation letter), please inform us so that we could provide you with them. Visa expenses are not included in the participation fee.

4.3. Accommodation before and after the program

.....If you are planning to stay in Japan before or after the program, please arrange your accommodation yourself. These expenses are not included in the participation fee.
